

LuciDream. project 05
An open-world surreal survival game with particular horror and narrative elements. Players will explore the truth of this bizarre world.
Project description: Our group made this game during the MA Collaborate Unit. With the topic of From Everyday Object to Fanstical Object, we chose surrealism as the theme of our game. Surrealist works often create illogical imagery and transform everyday objects into bizarre creatures. This distortion and contradiction have strong relevance to the topic. During this project, we spent a lot of effort on the level design. In the early versions of the project, it was difficult for the player to find the objective of the game, which greatly affected the game experience. During subsequent iterations, we repeatedly overturned and reworked existing scenes, constantly modifying the game guide and adding guideposts. In the final test, players always achieved the game objectives without any problems. We really did a good job.
Advantages:
1. Strong connection to the theme. We have researched surrealism thoroughly. The themes of the unconscious, the element of surprise and counter-intuition in surrealism are well presented in the game. In each playtest, we focused on the player's understanding and feedback of surrealism.
2. Good level design. We redid the game scenes several times to ensure a smooth game experience. Player feedback also gave us a lot of inspiration.
3. Unique gameplay experience. Due to the size of the game, we could not copy the common gameplay in horror games. After testing and discussion, we have designed a gameplay that responds to the player's subconscious.
4. A complete game flow. Thanks to the tireless efforts of the team members, the game is very complete. The visual effects, narrative and audio all serve the game's theme well.
